The medical technologies industry in Europe is currently operating in a challenging environment for innovation. Budgets are under continued pressure and the long term benefits of innovation are insufficiently recognised. There is no political commitment to support the introduction of innovation into local healthcare systems in a meaningful way. We see few experiments at national level, but they appear half-hearted and not a policy priority. On the administrative side, a multitude of data requirements at different levels results in increased unpredictability and inconsistency for our industry.
