Cardiovascular Health for All: A Call to Action 2024–2029

Posted on 29.09.2024

Today marks World Heart Day, a crucial reminder that cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of death in the European Union (EU). Affecting over 13 million people each year and responsible for 37% of all deaths, CVDs continue to pose a significant health challenge. Despite advancements in medical technology, access to innovative treatments continues to be uneven, and awareness of CVD risks remains alarmingly low. The COVID-19 pandemic has further intensified the burden of CVDs, making this an urgent moment for action.

As the EU enters the 2024-2029 legislature, MedTech Europe calls on the EU institutions to prioritise cardiovascular health by adopting a coordinated European Cardiovascular Health Plan. This plan should not only address gender and geographic disparities but also ensure timely access to preventive measures and life-saving treatments for patients. Europe has the know-how and innovative medical technologies to address this issue—now is the time to leverage these advancements to improve patient outcomes and reduce the strain on healthcare systems.

Only together can we enhance healthcare systems, reduce health disparities, and save lives across Europe.
