Medical technologies under the spotlight in the fight against AMR/HAIs

Posted on 05.11.2020

MedTech Europe’s Prevention and Control AMR/HAI Working Group has recently published a position paper explaining the challenges and solutions in the fight against AMR/HAIs.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a cross-border health threat that puts in danger modern medicine. It It risks us going back to a ‘pre-antibiotic era’, where patients could die from simple bacterial infections and life-saving treatments can no longer be performed safely.Healthcare associated infections (HAIs) are often caused by resistant bacteria. Preventing and detecting these infections is essential to reduce antibiotic usage.

MedTech Europe’s latest position paper provides recommendations for concrete actions along the patient pathway at EU as well as Member State level. Last but not least, it highlights the role the medical technology sector can play in the fight against AMR/HAIs by engaging and partnering with relevant stakeholders at both EU and national levels.
