The European Medical Technology industry in figures 2016

The 2016 statistics show that the medical technology industry continues to be one of Europe’s most diverse and innovative hightech sectors.

95% of Europe’s 26,000 medical technology companies are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The industry invests heavily to continuously improve its technologies and come up with breakthrough innovations. It files more patents than any other sector, provides over 650,000 jobs in Europe and delivers a positive trade balance of €14.1 billion.
