Calling for greater access to digitally enabled diabetes care in Europe
Posted on 06.06.2024
MedTech Europe and its Diabetes Sector Group remain committed to fostering better and more equal quality care for the millions of people living with diabetes in Europe and promoting access to digitally enabled care.
In this month of political change, the Sector Group is working closely with the Diabetes Community to put diabetes high on the EU agenda. The group is calling for sound policy frameworks to improve treatment and care for diabetes in Europe, in line with the Diabetes Community Pledge developed by the European Diabetes Forum (EUDF) with the Group’s input. Policymakers, patients and all concerned stakeholders are invited to relay and sign it. Several Members of the European Parliament’s main political parties already took a stand for the diabetes community by signing this Pledge, including MEPs István Ujhelyi (S&D, Hungary), Ondřej Knotek (Renew, Czechia), and Sirpa Pietikäinen (EPP, Finland).
In recent weeks, the Group has explored the barriers for people living with type 2 diabetes in accessing digitally enabled care. Based on desk research and rounds of interviews with expert stakeholders – patients, clinicians, researchers, regulatory experts, and politicians – the group is developing a set of recommendations for decision-makers at EU and national levels, to improve access to digitally enabled care.
