How can Robotic Assisted Surgery help solve Europe’s healthcare challenges?

Posted on 03.07.2025

On 8 May 2025, MedTech Europe published a position paper on how Robotic Assisted Surgery (RAS) can transform European healthcare.

Robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) represents a major innovation, combining machines and computers with human expertise to modernise surgical precision.

Among its many advantages are enhanced surgical precision, fewer complications, shorter patient recovery times, and reduced pressure on healthcare systems.

However, barriers such as fragmented reimbursement and limited awareness of RAS’s long-term value prevent this technology from reaching its full potential.

To overcome these challenges, MedTech Europe recommends a set of coordinated policy actions: raising awareness of the RAS benefits, establishing adequate reimbursement, and supporting the widespread adoption of RAS in healthcare facilities.
