Joint industry statement on the new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation

The Commission’s decision to exempt pallet wrappings and straps from the 100% reuse targets of the new Packaging Regulation acknowledges an important reality: some packaging solutions are essential for safe, reliable logistics and currently have no viable reusable alternatives at scale. However, maintaining the 40% reuse target for these same formats risks undermining this important recognition. To ensure safety, operational reliability, and legal clarity across European supply chains, policy should remain consistent and workable.

Therefore, MedTech Europe, together with some 80 other industry players, calls for enacting a similar evidence-based approach to the 40% reuse requirement as a next step.
