MedTech Europe Position on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive revision

MedTech Europe presents its position on the proposed revisions to the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), as part of the European Commission’s Omnibus I package. We welcome the EU’s commitment to reducing administrative burdens and simplifying sustainability legislation, especially for SMEs.

This position paper outlines our recommendations to ensure that the revised frameworks remain effective, coherent, and practical for the medical technology sector. Key priorities include:

  • Focusing due diligence obligations on Tier 1 suppliers, with a risk-based approach for the broader supply chain.
  • Supporting the removal of the harmonised EU civil liability regime in favour of national legal systems.
  • Advocating for greater harmonisation and clarity in reporting requirements and timelines.
  • Endorsing longer intervals for supplier monitoring and reporting, based on risk.
  • Calling for proportionate penalties and reduced administrative burdens for SMEs.

MedTech Europe remains committed to supporting sustainability objectives while ensuring that companies can continue to innovate and compete globally.
