MedTech Europe Cardiovascular Sector Group urging the EU to adopt a dedicated EU Cardiovascular Health Plan
The MedTech Europe Cardiovascular Sector Group, a co-founder of the European Alliance for Cardiovascular Health (EACH), welcomes the European Union’s (EU) renewed political momentum on cardiovascular disease (CVD)—Europe’s leading cause of death—and calls for bold and coordinated action to reduce CVD mortality by 30% by 2030.
Given the high level of mortality and the burden of CVD on patients and society as a whole, the MedTech Europe Sector Group urges the EU to adopt a dedicated EU Cardiovascular Health Plan by the end of 2025, with clear objectives, strong investment, and ambitious actions across four priority areas:
- Optimise patient pathways from early detection to treatment, including launching a European Cardiovascular Health Check Programme and EU guidelines for referral and care delivery.
- Establish a European Network of Comprehensive Cardiovascular Centres to ensure timely, equitable, and multidisciplinary care across EU Member States.
- Create a European Cardiovascular Health Knowledge Centre to standardise data, monitor progress, address inequalities, and support real-time, evidence-based policymaking.
- Accelerate patient access to life-saving innovations by streamlining regulatory, procurement, and reimbursement pathways tailored to cardiovascular needs.
The Sector Group calls for a dedicated EUR 5 billion EU investment over 5 years—less than 2% of the annual CVD burden—to support Member States in improving care, scaling innovation, and reducing inequalities. The time to act is now!
