Bringing a global regulatory perspective to AfriSummit 2025

MedTech Europe participated in AfriSummit 2025, which took place from 2 to 5 November 2025 in Cairo, Egypt. The event brought together regulators, policymakers and industry representatives from across Africa and the globe to exchange perspectives on medical technology regulation and its practical implementation.

MedTech Europe contributed to discussions on adapting global regulatory frameworks to regional settings, drawing on the European Union’s experience implementing the Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation (IVDR).

The intervention highlighted practical lessons from the European experience and how these can support safe and transparent regional regulatory approaches that foster innovation and access.

The exchanges reflected a shared commitment to sustained international collaboration aimed at ensuring that regulatory systems safeguard patients while supporting the safety, quality and timely availability of medical technologies.
