MedTech Europe joins EU trade ministers for life sciences dialogue in Dublin
Posted on 05.11.2026
On 22 October 2026, MedTech Europe and Irish Medtech represented the European medical technology industry at a High-Level Strategic Dialogue on Life Sciences in Dublin. Hosted by the Irish Presidency and convened by Minister Helen McEntee, the meeting brought together EU trade ministers, European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič and life sciences representatives to discuss Europe’s competitiveness.
MedTech Europe highlighted the role of trade policy in strengthening Europe’s life sciences sector, underlining the importance of globally integrated supply chains, open markets and improved access for European exporters. The contribution emphasised international reliance on CE marking and tariff relief for medical technologies, alongside the need to address localisation requirements, discriminatory procurement practices and other market access restrictions.
The exchange also covered the conditions needed to support innovation, investment and manufacturing in Europe. MedTech Europe pointed to the ongoing revision of the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Devices Regulation (IVDR) as an opportunity to improve regulatory predictability and strengthen Europe’s attractiveness for medical technology companies. The importance of procurement that rewards quality and innovation was also highlighted.
MedTech Europe strongly supports a recurring high-level dialogue between EU trade ministers and the life sciences sector under each Council Presidency. Building on the Dublin exchange, this would provide a regular opportunity to identify emerging challenges and develop solutions with industry.
