26th GHWP Annual Meeting – NMPA elected as new Chairman of GHWP

The 26th annual meeting of the Global Harmonization Working Party (GHWP) was hosted by SFDA in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh from 13 to 16 February 2023. The meeting concluded with the election and endorsement of GHWP leadership for the 2023-25 period, where Dr Xu Jinghe, Deputy Commissioner of China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), was elected as the new GHWP Chairman. Indonesia’s Mr. Lupi Trilaksono from the Ministry of Health has been elected as the Vice-Chair and Ms EunHee Cho from Abbott Korea will act as the new industry Vice-Chair.

GHWP gathers regulatory authorities from around the world, working with industry representatives and other stakeholders towards achieving international harmonisation of medical device regulations. The outgoing Chair Eng. Ali M. Al-Dalaan, has led GHWP for the past five years during which he has overseen the rebranding of the organisation from Asian Harmonization Working Party to GHWP, reflecting its global membership.
MedTech Europe participates in GHWP through the Global Medical Technology Alliance (GMTA), which is a liaison member. At the 26th GHWP annual meeting, GMTA was represented by Diana Kanecka, Senior Manager International Affairs at MedTech Europe who presented GMTA’s views on how to accelerate access to medical technologies through regulatory convergence and reliance.
