AI in healthcare requires data, trust and incentives

Posted on 03.03.2021

AI in healthcare has the potential to save lives, resources, and labour, but it requires quality data, social trust, the right incentives, and a balanced regulatory environment. Those were MedTech Europe’s messages at the opening panel on 24 February of Sidley’s annual Life Sciences College (LSC), a conference for legal and regulatory executives at pharmaceutical and medical technology companies and their regulators, in Europe and the US. Michael Strübin, Digital Health Director, cited results from the 2020 MTE/Deloitte report “The Socio-economic impact of AI on European healthcare” and engaged in a lively debate with representatives from the European Commission and the audience. The Commission will introduce AI legislation in spring 2021.
