EPSCO Council meeting on 14 June 2022

During the EPSCO Council meeting on 14 June 2022, EU Health Ministers engaged in a discussion over the challenges facing the implementation of the MDR. The meeting was publicly broadcasted and can be streamed here.
The three key outcomes from the discussion are the following:
- After an update by the European Commission on the state of play of the MDR implementation, 18 EU Member States took the floor to express their concerns and conveyed the urgency of the matter.
- Ireland reaffirmed that it is imperative that EU Member State, manufacturers, notified bodies, and other stakeholders work together on EU-wide solutions to address MDR implementation
- As a conclusion, the European Commission was invited to provide a progress report and recommendations on how to address challenges at the next EPSCO meeting in December.
A clear political mandate has been given to the European Commission and regulators to find and implement concrete EU-wide solutions as soon as possible. An update by the Commission on the state of play is expected at the next Council meeting in December 2022.
MDR implementation is a top priority for MedTech Europe and its members, and we will continue to monitor the situation and actively contribute to the discussion.
