India launches its National Medical Device Policy

On 2 May 2023, the government of India issued the National Medical Device Policy. The policy is based on India’s vision to promote growth and development of the Indian medical devices sector, to make it more competitive globally by achieving 10-12% global market share over the next 25 years and to reduce India’s import reliance.

The policy lays down a roadmap for accelerating growth of the medical devices sector while promoting safety and quality of medical devices and strategies in the following areas: regulatory streamlining, enabling infrastructure, facilitating R&D and innovation, attracting investment in the sector, human resources development and brand positioning and awareness creation.
