Mapping Access to Type 2 Diabetes Care Across Europe
Posted on 06.04.2023
The MedTech Europe Diabetes Group continues its work of advancing digitally enabled care for the benefit of people living with diabetes, their care teams and wider health systems in Europe. In addition to Type 1 diabetes (T1D), the Group places a growing focus on the role medical technology can play in preventing, diagnosing and managing Type 2 diabetes (T2D).
In this spirit, the Group aims to develop an ‘access framework’ for T2D care – in collaboration with national associations and key partners- to shed light on the main drivers and barriers impacting access to medical technologies for people living with T2D amongst selected EU member states.
By assessing the access environment and shining a light on the landscape in Europe, the project should be an opportunity to facilitate discussion and exchange with decision-makers at European, national, and regional levels to look for improvements in the existing ‘access’ environment for people living with T2D.
Recognising the value of digitally enabled diabetes care and enabling its usage will be central to the success of several key European initiatives as well. These include the EU “Healthier Together” NCD Initiative, which aims to promote best practices and innovative solutions in addressing the growing challenge of NCDs, as well as several national initiatives aiming to create a more digital-ready future for health systems, including the German DiGA law and the Belgian mHealth platform.
