MedTech Europe at the 77th World Health Assembly – All for Health, Health for All
Posted on 06.06.2024
The 77th World Health Assembly (WHA) was held from 27 May to 1 June 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme of ‘All for Health, Health for All’. MedTech Europe attended the WHA on behalf of the Global Medical Technology Alliance (GMTA), a recognised stakeholder of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The WHA reached an agreement on a range of important topics — including amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR) — extended the mandate to reach an agreement on a pandemic treaty and adopted several resolutions on important topics, e.g., climate change and health. The event facilitated discussions on several strategic and emerging topics, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and the launching of an investment case for the WHO.
Apart from the WHA agenda, more than 150 side events were held to discuss topics related to global health policy. MedTech Europe co-organised a side event with the WHO Foundation dedicated to access to medical technologies during emergencies. This facilitated an insightful exchange between the WHO, the WHO Foundation and medical technology private sector representatives.
