MedTech Europe calls for medical technology sector to be an integral part of the future Life Sciences Strategy

MedTech Europe answered to the European Commission Call for evidence on the Life Sciences Strategy, urging policymakers to prioritise the medical technology sector in the upcoming Strategy. As medical technology patent filings declined and regulations become increasingly complex and burdensome, the EU must act soon or it will fall behind other global innovation hubs. This is not just a medical technology problem, rather it is a European competitiveness problem.

MedTech Europe urges Policymakers to place the medical technology sector as an integral part of the EU Life Sciences Strategy and use the upcoming Strategy as an opportunity to reinstall Europe’s attractiveness for medical technology innovation. MedTech Europe welcomes the broadening of the scope, from research-and-innovation-only, and urges policymakers to seize the opportunity of the Strategy by taking seven Priority Actions, ranging from the adoption of a structural reform of the medical technology sector’s regulatory system, better alignment and simplification of regulatory requirements across different policy domains, to allocating strategic investments to build a more efficient, sustainable, and resilient healthcare infrastructure.
