MedTech Europe continues the fight against antimicrobial resistance
Posted on 18.11.2022
Every year, around 33.000 people die in Europe from infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria (AMR). As we mark both EU Antibiotics Awareness Day and the WHO’s World Antimicrobials Awareness Week , we must reflect on ways to prevent, and take action against, what is set to become a global pandemic.
MedTech Europe has a long history in addressing antimicrobial resistance. The medical technology industry plays an important role in preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). With the use of medical devices to detect, monitor and manage infections, the spread of infections can be reduced or even prevented. This is key in reducing the development of bacteria resistant to antibiotics.
