MedTech Europe contributes to Politico workshop on digital health transformation
Posted on 04.11.2019
MedTech Europe participated on 2 October 2019 in the workshop “EU Health 2024: digital transformation of health care” convened in the European Parliament by Politico, with MEPs Andrus Ansip (Renew Europe, Estonia) and Sara Cerdas (S&D, Portugal), Ioana-Maria Gligor from DG Sante, representatives of the Estonian and German governments, and a number of digital health experts and stakeholders. In his contribution, Michael Strübin, MTE Digital Health Director, noted the diversity of digital health maturity in European Member States, with “superstars” in the Nordics and other regions, and other Member States which are catching up, particularly among the larger EU members. Lack of interoperability remains a critical barrier for digital health advancement, and Michael called on national and regional governments to mandate compliance with international standards, in line with the recent MTE position paper on digital health interoperability. The Politico article “Germany aims to become EU leader in digital health revamp” of 16 October 2019 referenced themes and views from the workshop.
