MedTech Europe in the spotlight in the battle against AMR

Posted on 03.10.2019

MedTech Europe participated as a speaker in the Stakeholder’s Forum of the EU Joint Action on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections (EU-JAMRAI) that took place on 17th September. MedTech Europe presented at the roundtable on Economic Models for Stimulating Innovation and Access to Antimicrobials.

We highlighted the importance of incorporating value in the decision-making and rewarding value to ensure incentives that can be taken up by the medical technology industry. Equally, we emphasised our industry’s work throughout the patient pathway to prevent, detect and control AMR and HAIs via rapid diagnostic tests and medical technology solutions.

The high-level speakers urged the participants, which comprised of public authorities, European Institutions and industry associations, to commit in combatting the challenge of AMR even when the EU-JAMRAI’s mandate is over.

Towards this purpose, MedTech Europe has co-signed an open letter directed to the Members of the European Parliament on the importance to sustain EU progress in the fight against antimicrobial resistance. The letter was signed together with 16 other stakeholders active in human and animal health.

MedTech Europe and its members will continue to work to ensure that the battle against AMR and Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) remains a political priority at EU and global level.
