Priorities for the upcoming revision of the Waste EEE Directive

Posted on 05.10.2023

The European Commission held a public consultation on the upcoming revision of Directive 2012/19/EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Besides collecting insights into how the Directive is functioning, the evaluation assesses how consistent the Directive is with the EU’s wider policy objectives, including those of the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan.

MedTech Europe has responded to the stakeholder questionnaire and provided it key priorities paper for the upcoming revision. Besides calling for better harmonisation, we advocate for focusing the WEEE Directive on extended producer responsibility aspects while removing regulatory overlaps and improving the overall consistency of EU legislation.

The adoption of the Commission proposal is announced for Q2/2024.
