MedTech Europe spoke at the Slovenian Presidency eHealth event
Posted on 09.09.2021
On 1 July Slovenia assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, taking over from Portugal. Last week, Slovenia held a digital health event called Days of eHealth, Data spaces and digital transformation in healthcare between 30 August and 3 September 2021 with a strong focus on the European Health Data Space (link).
MedTech Europe was invited to participate in the roundtable “Finland: Secondary use of data” on 1 September 2021, where Medtech Europe Digital Health Committee’s chair Angel Martín (from member company Johnson & Johson) was joined by Minna Hendolin from the Finnish Innovation Fund SITRA, Jukka Lähesmaa Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, and Dipak Kalra, President of the European Institute for Innovation through Health Data.
During the high level discussion, Angel highlighted key demands from the medical technology industry to address the barriers to health data access, including the fragmented implementation and interpretation of GDPR (see the recent publication Unlocking the full benefits of health data – Recommendations from MedTech Europe, June 2021), and noted the potential of artificial intelligence in healthcare, which could improve patient outcomes, empower healthcare professionals and save up to 12% of today’s healthcare expenditure (see the MedTech Europe / Deloitte report Socio Economic Impact of AI in healthcare).
