On Friday 24 February MedTech Europe won the award of “Highly Commended” in the category of Best Networking Event for The Standing Men: Technologies for Life at European Association Awards! In October 2016, MedTech Europe with EU40 hosted an event and art exhibit, The Standing Men, at the entrance of the European Parliament. The initiative brought together over 200 stakeholders to discuss the value of medical technologies. The art exhibit, a unique light and sound art piece (created by AADN), was installed at the entrance of the European Parliament and drew attention from many policy makers and stakeholders across Brussels and beyond, with many noting the unique approach of coupling the life-like statues with the voices of people in the EU healthcare community.

European Association Awards Judging Panel 2017 feedback included: “Refreshing approach, great partnership, good angle on networking. This event appears to have brought a positive impact to its cause and objectives, while providing insights for the attendees.”

Serge Bernasconi, CEO of MedTech Europe said: “I am delighted the European Association Awards have presented us with award of ‘Highly Commended’ for The Standing Men! The award recognises our innovative approach of bringing art and medtech together to underscore the value of health technologies for people and healthcare systems every day throughout Europe.”

In conjunction to the art exhibit, MedTech Europe held sessions over four days which focused on healthcare topics such as diabetes, orthopaedic and community care, eHealth, personalised medicines, patient safety and antimicrobial resistance. Participants included representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), the OECD, European Commission DG Health and Consumers and DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, the European Parliament, national governments, the European Alliance for Personalised Medicines (EAPM),  Health First Europe (HFE), European Health Parliament, and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Europe.
