Milestone: The Innovative Health Initiative launches its first five projects

MedTech Europe is pleased to share that the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) launched its first five projects. The projects bring together collaborators from the medical technology, pharmaceutical, and big data and imaging sectors. They address key challenges in health research, such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, and will benefit from the public-private, cross-sector approach exemplified by IHI.

We are excited to see the first cross-sectorial IHI projects signed and launched, to start addressing several unmet healthcare needs. Cooperation between the medical technology, biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors, and between public and private stakeholders, provides huge opportunity to deliver better healthcare for EU patients.” 

MedTech Europe is delighted to see the first integration of medical technology companies into the projects of this partnership. IDERHA, a project proudly co-lead by MedTech Europe Member Johnson & Johnson Medical, will create a big data platform to advance lung cancer diagnosis and care. The IMAGIO project, joined by MedTech Europe Member Philips, will focus on developing more precise cancer treatments with limited side-effects; and the GUIDE.MRD project, joined by MedTech Europe member Illumina,  will aim to develop better blood tests to detect cancer. Two projects focus on neurodegenerative conditions – CLAIMS will develop a diagnostic platform for Multiple Sclerosis, and PROMINENT will establish a digital platform to improve diagnosis and care for people with Alzheimer’s disease.  

Altogether, the new projects have a budget of EUR 129 million, around half of which comes from Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation programme, and half from contributions from project industry partners, and IHI contributing partners, which MedTech Europe is proud to be part of.
