The COVID-19 pandemic has had significant consequences on the day-to-day life of people living with acute and chronic diseases, as well as on healthcare workers and European national health systems.
As the EU adjusts to the ‘new normal’, it is important to build on the lessons learnt from the pandemic to ensure that immediate and long-term challenges can be addressed to relieve pressure on healthcare systems.
Improved access to early screening and diagnosis, planning for hospital preparedness, and appropriate funding for innovation and digital health solutions are some of the next steps to take to build more resilient health systems and improve patient outcomes.
