Regulations on IPI and Foreign Subsidies move forward
Posted on 07.07.2022
After the positive outcome of the vote at the European Parliament, the Council also gave the green light to the International Procurement Instrument (IPI) on 17 June 2022. The IPI, which will come into force on 29 August 2022, promotes reciprocity in access to international public procurement markets.
On 30 June, the Parliament and the Council also reached a provisional political agreement on the regulation on foreign subsidies distorting the internal market. The regulation aims to remedy the distortions created by subsidies granted by non-EU countries to companies operating in the EU’s single market.
The two measures are relevant for the MedTech Industry, as European companies are confronted with an uneven playing field in several third countries due to challenging access to the procurement markets and lack of transparency.
