The Value of Medtech: Heart Failure event in the European Parliament

Posted on 03.03.2016

This week MedTech Europe, in collaboration with Aldo Patriciello MEP, highlighted the importance and value of proper treatment and care for people with Heart Failure. The event took place in the European Parliament with attendance from over 40 stakeholders including people having experienced heart failure, healthcare professionals, citizens’ groups and platforms, Parliamentary assistants and industry representatives. The meeting was made possible with the support of St Jude Medical, Roche and Edwards.

Nick Hartshorne-Evan, himself having experienced heart failure, and Chief Executive of the Pumping Marvellous Foundation, expressed that his key call to policy-makers would be to prepare the policy landscape sooner rather than later, to manage the coming tsunami of heart failure. He also emphasised that the awareness about heart failure is very poor given the large number of people that are affected by the condition. Mr Patriciello, MEP concluded that we should learn from best practices across countries for the sake of the European citizens. The Member of European Parliament also noted the solution medical technologies have in ensuring sustainability of healthcare systems when treating people with heart failure.

A more extensive outcome report on the event will follow in the coming weeks. For more information, please contact Timea Rezi-Kato.
