WHO Global Atlas of Medical Devices 2022 now available

Posted on 01.12.2022

The WHO released on 25 November 2022 the new edition of the Global Atlas of Medical Devices. For each of the 194 country profiles therein, the document includes indications on the national status of medical devices in areas such as: medical device policies, regulations, incorporation, lists, inventories, nomenclature, health technology assessment, management, and biomedical engineering resources.

This publication has been in consultation during a period of six months in 2021 and 2022. The focus of the 2022 edition of the Global Atlas is to point out how the status of medical device topics supports or hinders the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supports the increased access to priority medical devices (including in vitro diagnostics) for emergencies, wellbeing, and universal health coverage (UCH). The previous edition was published in 2017.
