MedTech Europe calls for tariff relief for medical technologies under the EU-US trade deal

MedTech Europe welcomes the continued efforts by the European Union and the United States to bring greater stability and predictability to transatlantic trade relations, as the EU formally adopts legislative measures implementing EU tariff commitments under the August 2025 EU-US Joint Statement.

The formal adoption of these measures is an important step towards providing greater predictability and stability for industry, healthcare systems and patients, while supporting the innovation and investment.

This should now provide the basis for continued EU-US dialogue, including the consideration of further sectoral tariff relief, particularly for medical technologies and their essential inputs, where trade is mutually beneficial, supply chains are deeply integrated and globally connected.

Medical technologies, including medical devices, in vitro diagnostics and their essential inputs should be prioritised for tariff relief. Medical technologies are essential to patient care, healthcare delivery and health system resilience, and EU-US medical technology trade is deeply integrated and mutually beneficial.

MedTech Europe stands ready to support EU and US policymakers in advancing a practical approach for medical technologies as part of continued EU-US discussions.
