Publication of MedTech Europe position paper “Recognising the value of digital health apps: An assessment of five European healthcare systems”

Posted on 02.12.2021

MedTech Europe recently published a position paper on the value of digital health apps focusing on CE-marked apps in Belgium, England, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. The paper focuses on the funding and reimbursement models for digital health apps in the countries considered, identifying different characteristics and common elements and overarching patterns. It finally proposes recommendations that may guide further developments of these initiatives, enabling digital health apps to be widely implemented across Europe.

Digital health technologies have the potential to make healthcare safer, better and more efficient. Yet levels of their uptake and deployment in Europe’s healthcare systems remain low. As part of its work to increase the recognition of the value of digital health technologies, MedTech Europe seeks to understand and document the barriers hindering the uptake and deployment of these technologies in Europe’s healthcare systems and aims to propose ways in which these barriers can be mitigated or removed. The paper has gathered support from many stakeholders in the digital health environment. It has been featured in the media with publications in Pharma Intelligence Informa – MedTech Insight, and Tagesspiegel Background (in German).

We invite you to share your views and reactions on the paper with Sophie Koettlitz, Manager Value and Innovation-based Access, at MedTech Europe.
