COCIR and MedTech Europe’s Vision for Strengthening Cybersecurity in Europe’s Future Healthcare Systems

Earlier this year, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced an upcoming European action plan on the cybersecurity of hospitals and healthcare providers within the first 100 days of the new mandate. MedTech Europe and COCIR welcome the initiative as a crucial step towards our shared vision to enhance the resilience of healthcare infrastructures through comprehensive cybersecurity measures.

Beyond the existing legal framework and to effectively implement the upcoming European action plan, MedTech Europe and COCIR recommend increasing capacity and expertise in healthcare, to address the risks posed by outdated equipment and software, to raise awareness and engage with stakeholders, to develop guidelines for the use of the NIS2 directive in healthcare, to focus on a supportive cloud ecosystem, and to embed cybersecurity in healthcare procurement.
