Bastian Hauck

Bastian Hauck, type-1 diabetic, sailor and author, founded Adventure Diabetes in 2010 after a half-year sailing trip around Cape Horn. Working closely with DiabetesDE, the IDF and patient organizations as well as medical entrepreneurs and the pharmaceutical industry, he promotes an independent lifestyle not limited by diabetes.

Prior to opting for a life at sea, Bastian worked at the Foreign Office and the German Council on Foreign Relations, UNDP Headquarters (New York) and the OECD (Paris). He studied business economics at Witten/Herdecke University and spent three years at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, specializing in political economy of the Middle East. A native German, he also speaks English, French and basic Arabic.
